2011 Troop 109 Survival outing

Troop 109 just completed another great outing.  This month, the Troop went to an undisclosed pine forest under the Mogollon Rim and had one of the most successful survival outings to date.  This year, the scouts were divided into six survival teams and headed out to their survival campsites with only a sleeping bag, water and survival kit.  At their sites, they were provided a container of survival food.  The scouts had to build a fire with no matches and then figure out how to cook such items as whole tilapia fish, chayote squash, prickly pear pads and assortment of other raw vegetables using no cooking utensils.  Each survival group was graded on: fire making, camp craft, cooking and leave no trace.

Awesome Campout to Kennedy Ranch

Posted on 04/25/10 by Scoutmaster 2 Comments

April 25, 2010 – Troop 109 had an awesome campout at Kennedy Ranch in the Superstition Wilderness. Scout instructors trained over 20 adults in outdoor skills. Scouts took a nice day hike down to Oak Flat. Chef Red and crew made his famous Cajun meatloaf with jalapeno gravy, fresh mashed potatoes and corn. With 88 people in attendance, we had a great campfire that night.
