Outings

Troop 109 is all about outings!

We believe that camping and outings are the centerpiece of a good scouting program. Scouts in Troop 109 go camping two nights every month. Here’s a few of our past outings.

2009-08-FrameJuly 2009 Survival Outing

The scouts of 109 had their annual survival outing near Gash Flat, Arizona. Scouts learn primitive cooking, back country first aid skills, orienteering and shelter building. Then they get to put what they’ve learned into practice as they set out by Patrol to build a shelter, cook and overnight in the wild.

Yosemite High Adventure – Log Cabin Wilderness Camp
July 2009

This year, Troop 109 bent backpacking in Yosemite National Park via the BSA Log Cabin Wilderness Camp – the highest BSA camp in the USA. This little known camp provides one of the best experiences scouts can have anywhere. A week at Log Cabin includes an excellent C.O.P.E. course, steak dinners and a hot tub to soothe the bones. You get to choose the trails you’d like to hike and the great staff of Log Cabin takes care of the rest, including obtaining permits for the park, backpacking food, bear canisters and an experienced guide to show you the wonders of Yosemite.

February 2009

There’s nothing like the Superstition Wilderness in February. This is one of the few times during the year when the weather is great and water is plentiful. This epic hike through La Barge Canyon was strenuous, but rewarding.
