2015 Channel Islands Mini-High Adventure
Santa Cruz Island: The troop will visit the Channel Islands National Park on the eastern end of Santa Cruz Island. The island is located 20 miles off the southern California coast, just west of Ventura, CA. During the 1800’s and early 1900’s Santa Cruz Island was used for farming and ranching. It was abandoned and in the 1970’s the western portion of the island was acquired by the Nature Conservancy, while the eastern portion was acquired by the National Park Service. Since then, much work has been done to restore the unique flora and fauna of the island. Santa Cruz Island is home to the Channel Islands Fox, as well as other animals and plants found nowhere else in the world.
