About the Event

The Great Southwest Klondike

Hello Lumberjacks.  Join us for a Lumberjack themed winter outing.  This is a Council event and has several activities we will be able to participate in.  There are Klondike Competition stations that include First Aid, Firebreak Race, Log Drag, Log Chop, Tomahawk throwing, and X-Country Skiing.  They will be providing lunch Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday.  Patrols will cook breakfast and dinner on Saturday.  Sunday will have sled races using sleds built by the scouts.  Sign up following the steps below.

> We will need to register for the event with Council.  Cost is $42 per participant, Scouts and adults.  Please go to the council event here to register. https://scoutingevent.com/010-24Klondike

WHERE IS THE OUTING?

Camp Raymond - Boy Scout Camp Rd, Parks, AZ 86018

Directions: Take I-17 N ~124 miles and merge onto I-40 W.  Travel on I-40 W for ~17 miles and take exit 178 for Parks Rd.  Turn Left onto Parks Rd and continue onto S Garland Pr Rd for ~7 miles.  S Garland Pr Rd turns slightly right and becomes Garland Prairie Rd/E Garland Prairie Rd.  Turn left onto Boy Scout CAmp Rd.

WHAT WILL WE BE DOING?

FRIDAY:

6:00 PM - Meet at North Scottsdale United Methodist Church

6:30 PM - Caravan to Camp Raymond and check in

10:00 PM - Lights Out

SATURDAY:

7:00 AM - Breakfast (Scouts will cook as a patrol)

8:15 AM - Flag Ceremony

9:00 AM - Klondike Skills Competition

12:00 PM - Lunch provided by program

1:00 PM - Klondike Skills Competition/Adult Dutch Oven Cook-off

4:00 PM - Free Time and Dinner in camp (Scouts will cook as a patrol)

8:00 PM - Campfire Program (at Fellowship Circle)

9:30 PM - OA Cracker Barrel (Dining Hall)

10:00 PM - Lights Out

SUNDAY:

8:00 - Breakfast provided by program

9:00 AM - Sled Race

10:00 AM - Awards

11:00 AM - Checkout (Conservation Project for those working on Paul Bunyan award)

WHAT TO BRING?

Cold Weather Camping Gear

- 2-3 person tent shared with a buddy, smaller the better

- Mummy sleeping bag

- Insulated sleeping pad

- Sleeping bag liner (will add additional warmth to your sleeping bag)

- Mug for warm liquids

- 2 quart water bottles

- Camp chair

- Extra clothing

HOW WILL WE GET THERE?

SEATS - We will need enough seats for all the Scouts.

GAS MONEY - All passengers not riding with their own parents need to have $20 gas money. We will check money at the parking lot. Passengers are to hand the gas money to their drivers before we leave the parking lot.

WHAT WILL WE EAT?

SCOUT MEALS - All scouts are to cook and eat as a patrol for breakfast and dinner Saturday.

ADULT MEALS - Adults will cook as a patrol.

> Camp will be provided lunch on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

You and your Scout must be realistic about his fitness level. Please be mindful of your Scouts physical abilities before signing them up for this outing.

All adults must be registered with the troop and have completed YPT training to participate in the Scouting event.  Please contact our Scoutmaster if you want to participate or have any questions.
