Annual Snow Outing - January 2024
WHAT ARE WE DOING?
- We plan to go to Flagstaff and stay in the barracks at Camp Navajo. Saturday we will go skiing. For those who have never skied, we strongly recommend a lesson. Scouts 12 and under ski free. Purchase lift tickets as soon as possible at https://www.snowbowl.ski/. Gear, including a helmet, can be rented in Phoenix, Flagstaff, or Snowbowl. Snowbowl makes it pretty easy with online purchasing.
- As of 10/29/23, lift tickets are priced at $109 per ticket.
WHERE ARE WE STAYING?
- Camp Navajo, 1 Hughes Ave, Bellemont, AZ 86015
- Check in at the guard house to get directions to the barracks.
- Directions: Head north on N Scottsdale Rd. Turn right onto E Cactus Rd. Use the left 2 lanes to turn left to merge onto AZ-101 Loop N. Take AZ-101 Loop N for 15.6 miles. Use the right 2 lanes to take exit 23B-23C-23C-B for I-17 N toward Flagstaff. Take I-17 N for 124 miles. Take exit 340B to merge onto I-40 W toward Los Angeles. Take I-40 W for 10.4 miles. Take exit 185 and turn left on Transwestern Rd. Continue on Transwestern Rd to your destination.

WHAT IS THE PLAN?
FRIDAY:
- Meet at the church at 6pm, we will depart at 6:30.
- Small group will go up early to check in at 3pm.
SATURDAY:
- 6:30am - Breakfast
- 7am - Group will depart for Snowbowl
- 12pm - Break for lunch
- 4pm - Head back to barracks
- 6pm - Dinner
- 10pm - Lights out
SUNDAY:
- 7am - Cleanup and inspection
- 8am - Caravan back to NSUMC, getting breakfast on the way if needed
WHAT TO BRING?
- Scouts will be responsible for their own ski and snowboarding equipment including a helmet.
- Bring a sleeping bag and appropriate clothing for the activity.

WHAT WILL WE EAT?
- The Troop will be providing breakfast and dinner. Bring cash to help pay for the meals.
- Please bring a lunch for Saturday to eat at the lodge or bring money to purchase a meal.
HOW WILL WE GET THERE?
- We will meet at North Scottsdale United Methodist church and caravan to Camp Navajo. We will need volunteers to help drive scouts and leaders to the event. Please include in the RSVP if you have available seats.
- GAS MONEY - All passengers not riding with their own parents need to have $20 gas money. We will check money at the parking lot. Passengers are to hand the gas money to their drivers before we leave the parking lot.
ADDITIONAL NOTES
- You and your Scout must be realistic about his fitness level. Please be mindful of your Scouts physical abilities before signing them up for this outing.
- All adults must be registered with the troop to participate in the Scouting event. Please contact our Scoutmaster if you want to participate or have any questions.
